Bruce Wilkinson rode the New York Times bestseller list and became a household name with The Prayer of Jabez and several followup books. Pretty amazing stuff for Wilkinson’s publisher Multnomah, then located in the Central Oregon town of Sisters. Now Bruce is back with You Were Born for This (Waterbrook/Multnomah, now a division of Random House). The premise that God longs to not only hand His children miracles but also to help same children pass along miracles to others is included in the book’s subtitle: 7 Keys to a Life of Predictable Miracles. Overall, I felt the book helped me connect with God on an emotional level. After 16 months of unemployment, our family could use a miracle, and although it sounds selfish in a backhanded way, I actually began receiving money and opportunities when I gave some money I really couldn’t afford to give.
The writing in this book is wonderful. (Disclaimer: I’ve known David Kopp for years and he’s one of the best writers and thinkers I know). As for the miracle idea, the widow in the Bible who gave out of her poverty was rewarded by God, and the same happened to me.
I confess that at times I felt transported to old televangelists like Oral Roberts. Roberts’ deal was that God grants you and I miracles when we give to others (mostly Roberts’ ministry). A pay-it-forward life isn’t a bad thing to pursue, though, and I liked the emphasis on giving to others.
For the first time ever, I’m also doing a giveaway for You Were Born For This. Be the first to ask and I’ll mail you a copy of the book. And it’s hardbound! Such a deal!
You can buy this book at http://waterbrookmultnomah.com/catalog.php?isbn=9781601421821
Can I have your free book?? I really can’t afford to buy it yet, but would love to read it, and pass it on! 🙂
Amber,
I’m so sorry, but the book has already been requested and mailed. Stay tuned though–I’m giving away another book this week, White Picket Fences by Susan Meissner. Ask for it first and you could get that one. Linda
