As part of our book promo plan, Kay Marshall Strom and I are leading a Church and Culture weekends at Valley Covenant Church in Eugene, Oregon. Think slavery ended with the Civil War? Think again. Kay’s historical Call of Zulina deals with the slave trade in the 1700s, and Friday evening at 7PM, she will speak on the current worlwide epidemic of human trafficking and sex slavery. 20% of her book sales will benefit Partners International, a global organization that fights against this epidemic.
Tomorrow morning at 10AM, I’ll pick up the thread of social injustice by telling about the historical efforts to assimilate Native Americans and highlight the progress made today. My novel, The Fence My Father Built, deals with American Indians. The Lillian Vallely School in Blackfoot, Idaho serves Indian children living on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation and 20% of my book sales benefit the school.
If you live in the Eugene-Springfield area, I hope you’ll consider coming out to hear us. As nonfiction authors, we’re familiar with speaking on topics. Since these are both our first debut novels, we are trying out a team effort that zeroes in on issues contained in our stories. We’ll let you know how well the concept plays out. Gotta run!
