Writing Tip for Today: is more of a question. Do author blog interviews/giveaways result in increased sales? On a micro scale, you have at least one more (we hope) enthusiastic reader for your audience. On a macro level, the more readers who know about the book, the bigger the buzz can grow. For all the high-tech ways we market our work, word of mouth is always the most sought-after prize in the marketing world. Get your book on as many blogs, radio shows or TV outlets as possible. But never underestimate the power of that passionate reader who’s on fire for your book.
Thanks to everyone who visited and/or commented on the author interviews and giveaways. If you read or write with passion, you know how important a good book can be. So, with a drum roll, please, it’s time to announce the (I hope) excited recipients of the three giveaway books from this week’s authors and interviews: Meg Moseley’s When Sparrows Fall goes to Katherine Hyde! Kathi Macias’ People of the Book is going to Guyanne and Stephen Bly’s Throw the Devil Off the Train will go to Kristen. Please send me a message so you can give me your postal address: lindas352 at comcast dot net. Again, thanks to everyone who left a comment. This was so much fun, I think I’ll have to run more interviews.
Thank you so much for doing this, Linda. I enjoyed reading about Kathi and Stephen’s latest books too. They sound like great reads.
Love your writing tips, Linda. I’ve found as a writer and publisher that there is nothing like word of mouth and the most effective and least expensive marketing is to give someone — whether a local bookseller, reviewer or blogger — a book. A book is never published until it is read.
What a great line, Mike! Not all authors understand that part of their most effective marketing will be giving away books. If you are coming out with a book soon, remember to budget for books you can afford to give away and mail to bookstores, bloggers and most of all, readers. ~Linda
Giveaways are fun and I’ve bought a few books that I’ve seen on giveaways. So yes it does get you more sales!
Wow, I won! So glad you tracked me down, Linda, because I completely forgot to check back.
I did a giveaway in conjunction with several other authors–we all announced all the giveaways on our blogs simultaneously. I got a lot of traffic from the other blogs, and my Amazon sales spiked the week of the giveaway. So yes, giveaways work!
