I’ve had incredibly positive reviews for The Fence My Father Built this past week. First, Christian Booksellers Association retail magazine wrote a touching account of the story.
Then an author I admire, Eva Marie Everson, wrote a great endorsement, saying, “This is simply a story you cannot take the chance of missing.” I’m awed and humbled by Eva’s generosity and kindness, because when you become sought-after as an author, you also tend to be very busy. Eva and others, such as Jane Kirkpatrick, Melody Carlson, Susan Meissner and Bonnie Leon, all took time from their hectic schedules to peruse my novel and comment on it. Thanks to you all.
Writing Tip for Today: If you’ve managed to publish a book, you’ll need to garner as many endorsements as you can from well-known authors. Their stamp of approval basically says, “Here’s a new author I think you’ll like.” How do new writers go about securing endorsements? It can be tricky, but a simple email or request on a social networking site can work. If you are brief, polite and make it as easy as possible, an author may be more willing to at least look at your book. Long before that first published book, you can develop relationships with authors at conferences or write fan letters to authors whom you admire or who are tops in your genre. When endorsement time comes around, you’ll already be acquainted.
