Hi readers, Yesterday I posted a guest blog to Christa Allen’s Fictionary blog. Head on over there and read about how The Fence My Father Built was imagined.
As for the earlier topic of writers’ jealousy and disappointment, let’s just say I’m feeling better today. Although I know not all my followers are of the same persuasion as I am, my faith is an incredible help through times when I’m consumed by jealousy as well as when disappointment shows up uninvited. Knowing there are people who really care about me and want the best for me is comforting. And it helps me get up the next morning, saying, “Your 24 hours of moping are over. Get back to work!”
Writing Tip for Today: Every writer is his/her own best cheerleader. Some disappointments, angry feelings or fits of jealousy are easier to get over than others, with or without the prayers of friends. I don’t try to pretend my feelings aren’t dinged up. But by limiting my regrouping time to one day, I force myself to become interested in writing instead of brooding. Do whatever you need to do in order to get past these rough patches. Write a rant that never gets mailed or sent, throw darts or chop more onions than you really need for dinner. Chop ’em hard. But next day, you’re back in the chair writing at absolute top speed as my pal John Reed always says. Get past the bumps and get busy.
