I know a lot of veteran authors. Some , like my pal Melody Carlson, have published going on 300 books. When she releases a book, sometimes she can’t even remember which one it is. I know authors who’ve already been on Oprah, GMA, other talk shows. Ho-hum, they yawn. “I’ve got so many deadlines, I can’t take time to celebrate one measly release.” I want to get there too. But I have a long ways to go.
As October 1, 2009 approaches, I feel more and more like screaming. In a good way. The reviews for The Fence My Father Built have been awesome. I am starting to make the rounds on the blogs. And the book trailer was pretty good considering I didn’t know much when I started mine. But for now, it’s enough that I feel like screaming. In a good way.
Writing Tip for Today: It’s true that the thrill of seeing your book in print is brief. Before long, your attention must go to the promotion, the next book, building your fan base, creating your brand. But shortlived as that elation is, don’t forget to rejoice. Scream if you want. Give thanks and praise to God, your longsuffering family, your dog, your mom. Then get busy creating the stuff you’ll be elated about in the future.
every noise and every creeking sound should be felt as gods voice. the positive momentum builds and the death urge seizes to exist..Scream baby, Scream:)
