March is nearly outta here and in my neck of the Northwestern woods, it looks as if it’ll go out like a lion. But wait, it came in like a lion too. What gives? Maybe writers should write like lions. I sometimes approach my writing timidly and with too little passion. The lamb approach (baa) might work for some things, but writing ought not be one of them. If we’re bold in our ideas and aren’t afraid to try things, if we dare to enter strange territory with our words, we should at least stick out of the crowd. Readers will feel stalked by brave concepts and challenged to think of subjects in new ways. What stretches me as a writer encourages readers to think of big ideas–exotic, passionate and even endangered. Think big. Write bold. Once in a while, do a bit of roaring–just to remind yourself that you can. Famous writers are often lionized, so why not you?
Writing Tip for Today: Are you writing too timidly or with less passion than usual? Are you willing to be vulnerable? Give yourself permission to think big. Then write in the boldest way you can. Roar and repeat often.
