New Year, New Writers

I thought I’d better post since I told all my new students about this blog. To the students of my classes at Lane Community College, welcome! I write here about lots of different subjects, but today I want to say a word about writing. For those of you in either the Creative Nonfiction or Crafting the Novel class, get thy buns into thy computer chair and generate some word count! You didn’t think I was watching, did you?

As my venerable old friend John Reed says, “Write at Absolute Top Speed!” Stick around and browse some of the older posts (the cover for my novel is here someplace) and come back now and then. Please leave a comment if you can. I never know what is going to provoke me enough to blog about it, but if I write it, will you come read it?

Part of a novelist’s (or nonfiction writer’s) platform-building should be getting to know as many people as you can. That way, you’ll be able to show them what you have to offer, and in this fast-changing world, it’s all about who (and how many) you know. For now, write, write, write. Write crap in a white-hot heat–you’ll have plenty of time to revise and polish. Thanks for stopping by. It’s my pleasure to work with all of you these coming weeks.
