Writing is Like Birthing

Today’s post will be short: my only daughter is in labor and we’re anxious to meet AMON PATRICK for the first time.

Mom and Dad to be.

Writing Tip for Today: Writing DOES seem a lot like having a baby, doesn’t it? You are creating a new thing, one that you hope will go far. You get your feelings hurt if somebody calls your writing “ugly.” You risk all sorts of things (your day job, your family and friends) to nurture this fragile creation. And as with our babies, we get many opportunities to walk the floor.
A most important aspect of both birthing and writing is that we don’t give up on our progeny. So wherever you are today on your writing road, remember that babies don’t usually arrive without birth pangs and neither will your best writing. Keep feeding this beast! (Sorry AMON) and never ever give up.
Please excuse me while I help my daughter through her labor! Baby Pics to come.

  1. LINDA!!! Saying one for you and your daughter right now — VERY exciting!!

And I had to laugh at your post because I wrote about exactly the same thing today in my Seeker blog entitled, Congratulations — It’s a Series!! Great minds, I guess … 🙂
