Where Does the Time Go?

In any typical writing day, I put on more than a few hats. For a while, I’m the dreamer, thinking up big ideas for that next story. Then I put on the worker bee hat and get in that word count on WIP (work in progress). But I have several more hats to try before I can call it a day, including marketer, publicizer, online networker and volunteer. No matter whether you regard yourself as an introvert, shy writer or another term, it all means that you want to put on a writing hat and keep it on all the time. Shouldn’t that be every writer’s goal?
Writing Tip for Today: Yes and no. If you never spend time revising, your work won’t get polished. If you don’t send out queries or submissions, you may be your only reader. And so on. These days most writers wear multiple hats on every writing day. Here are a few:
Dreamer
Drafter
Reviser/Editor
Query-er
Synopsis writer
Pitcher/submitter
Author
Publicizer
Marketer
Speaker
Minister
Online networker
Blogger
Volunteer

Try This! In the above list, how many of these hats have you worn? Which is the most daunting and what do you do to overcome this reluctance? What are some other hats not listed?

  1. I would have to say that the hat of organizer would be at the top of my list at this time. I spent part of today re-orgainzing my desk and resourse material. Then I spent some time organizing my calender and making prioity lists. It’s gotta get done!

  2. This is a very comprehensive list! It just goes to show that we all need more time in a day! Seriously, though, with the rapid changes in the publishing industry, gone are the days of just letting the creative juices flow and allowing someone else to do the leg work. Sigh! Were those the ‘good old days’ ??
