Tragedy Never Takes a Holiday

Today, Miss Crankypants wants to be funny. Oh yes she does. But it happens to be September 11. The nation is not in a good mood. And it feels vaguely distasteful to make fun of anything on a day like this.
Miss CP is too chicken to watch any of the TV shows. She can’t bear seeing any of the awful stuff that happened that day. Especially when the media makes us relive all of it for two weeks. This year they’re trying to get us to remember the horrors by playing the audio tapes recovered from victims in the towers. LA-LA-LA, Miss Crankypants can’t hear you.
She also thinks it’s ironic that we of the book publishing persuasion often have to try to launch, promote, speak, sign or otherwise hawk our wares on days like this. Miss CP remembers that a few years ago she had a big book promo planned and then, wouldn’t you know? Michael Jackson died. It was not fair.
So today, September 11, 2012, Miss Crankypants will cease trying to make jokes. Hug your loved ones today, people. Give thanks. Observe a moment of silence.
There will be plenty of time to poke fun on a regular day.
