Weekends: Do You Write?

Saturday. No classes, clients or other duties. What’s the first thing on my mind? Maybe I can sneak off and get some writing in. Who cares if the refrigerator needs cleaning, the laundry beckons and my crew goes hungry during the game? Don’t bother me–I’m writing.

Writing Tip for Today: I actually started thinking about weekend writing as in keeping up this blog. I wondered, how many prominent bloggers do Saturday and/or Sunday entries? And how many writers can’t wait for the weekend when the fam sleeps in and novelists tiptoe to their computers for a few blessed minutes?

Today’s tip is more of a survey:

  • Do you expect your favorite blogs to post entries on the weekends? Why or why not?
  • Do you take guilty pleasure in fitting in writing time off the 5 day work week? What’s your favorite time to get in that uninterrupted (aaah, bliss!) word count? I’d love to hear from you.

  1. I figure people update their blogs when the can. I don’t expect anyone to blog at any time that may be inconvenient for them. It takes me time to get through the blogs I follow. I don’t always comment, but I do try to get through them all in a week. I would hope that a blog I follow is updated at least once a week. BUT, I have been known to get busy on writing projects and forget about blogging for a week, so I don’t really expect anything since I don’t know what is going on in their life at that time.

    Jeepers, long answer, huh?

As for writing on the weekends, hmmm. If an idea is nagging at me, I’ll tinker, but my kids are early risers…okay, the teen is not an early riser, but the twins are. So, I hope on whenever the kids are absorbed with something else.

  2. Great comment, Diane! BTW, I have twins, although they are young adults. But I SO remember the wonder years. I typed standing up while the kiddos napped around the corner. Keep writing! ~Linda

  3. It seems to me that the blogs I follow dont post on weekends much. I am always disappointed with that and also that emails seem to stop on weekends. Im one of those people who loves getting emails. I feel like Im missing out on something when networking comes to a halt!

  4. I definitely write on the weekend. I find it difficult to fit much creative writing time in during the week because of all the marketing etc. that needs to take place. I also do most of my blogging then, too. Since I work full time at a pretty demanding job, I look forward to the weekend like a starving person does food.

  5. Tracy, Writing is always influenced by that “day job.” So what you are describing makes perfect sense.
I’m with you about networking, Jan. Weekends, when my emails are fewer, I feel a bit left out somehow. I suspect it makes me something of a writing addict. That’s fine by me. ~Linda

  6. I write on the weekends all the time! I also write my blog, but schedule it to post, as I do a regular Monday/Thursday blog. I figure those who like to read blogs on the weekend can visit my Thursday posts!

Thanks, Linda, for your info and tips.
