Surrendering Your Writing Life

This morning my publicist told me that as a result of the free Kindle Download for The Fence My Father Built, my novel is currently #2 in Contemporary Fiction over at Amazon. Wait, did I hear that correctly? (Sounds of muffled happy screeching). Only a few days ago I was moaning about how Michael Jackson had the temerity to die on my book’s launch day. What nerve! But today I am overflowing with thanksgiving. What changed?
I did.
Whether you are religious or not, we writers are prone to getting all bound up in worry about that next assignment, that next book. Guess it comes with the territory. In my case, I was becoming obsessed with getting my book’s sales numbers up, with furthering my career no matter what. Please be kind, I’m a goal-oriented woman. But that sort of craziness wasn’t helping me much.
So I decided to give my writing to God. Whether you offer your ambition to the universe or just decide to quit worrying or obsessing, I predict you’ll actually write better stuff and perhaps even sell more. For me, a huge weight lifted as I allowed my God to carry that burden. The fantastic response to my Fence novel is icing on the cake. Go get my novel as a free Kindle download and then show it around at school, work or church. Remember to say it’s FREE. Thanks.
And if you can’t get enough of me, head over to Christy Lockstein’s blog where I’m the guest today, writing about the special readers who “get” an author’s work. Stop by and leave a comment–she’s giving away a hard copy of my book. http://christysbookblog.blogspot.com/

  1. Linda, I’m so thankful I found you on FB and found this post. I have been battling worry with my “sophomore project” – all these negative thoughts because those that have read The Heart’s Journey Home have seemed to really like it. Will the next one measure up??? Your post reminded me that I have to do what I did while writing THJH – give it to God and let Him tell the story through me. Thanks again! Can’t wait to get my copy of The Fence! :o)

  2. Hey Jen, so good to “meet” you. I’m so glad you dropped by. Your name’s automatically in the giveaway box for the hard copies. I wish you every success with your next project. From the spirited voting on the bookclub, I think it will be a smash hit! Linda

  3. Linda, thanks for posting on surrendering our writing life. A good principle which makes us happier when applied to all aspects of our livers. 🙂
