Spring Break Challenge: The Bottom Line

This morning, my Dr. (also a novelist) said, “Your weight is up a bit.” I think he said, “A bit.” Or maybe I imagined that part. Right away I’m defensive: For months I’ve been chained to the keyboard writing a novel , subsisting on stick pretzels and Diet Dr. Pepper!”
But OK, lately my underpants have been giving me wedgies, so I’m going to test the theory that daily fast walking (at least a mile) will not only improve the bottom line but actually increase my productivity in the writing department. I will also swear off all junk carbs (farewell, fond friends), go hog-wild on broccoli and maybe even eat fish (eeew). If this doesn’t work I’ll be forced into bigger clothes, which my tiny kid sister (size 000) will never let me live down. I got the brains and the bosoms, and I do not wish to go three for three and have the behind too. So let the challenge begin!
Writing Tip for Today: Maybe you are not a slave to the cultural ideal that men and women of a certain age should still look like 12 year-olds (thanks, Jane Fonda!) but here’s an idea: What if more exercise and brain food (there’s that stinky fish idea again) makes you a better writer? A writer with focus, imagination, skill and the ability to squeeze into your old prom duds from high school? It might just be worth it. I’ll be blogging about my experience at trying to get the “bit” of weight down from being up. Join me so I don’t feel alone! I’d love to hear creative ways to stay fit & trim at the keyboard while still pounding out the best work you’ve ever written.
